Around the Anne Frank House
The museum complex covers Prinsengracht 263 to 267, and the visitor entrance is on the Westermarkt. The house lies on the edge of the Jordaan, a district of small streets, canals and markets, and the historic canal belt is next to it. The places below are in these two areas, and several are free.
The museum visit takes about one hour. Book your timed slot first, then use these ideas for the time before and after it. Some of them are places of remembrance, and others are simply pleasant streets. If you want a boat trip as well, see Amsterdam canal cruises from the landing stage beside the house.

Churches, memorials and the canal
The closest places, ideas 1 to 4.
1. The Westerkerk from the inside
The church is free, with a memorial plaque for Rembrandt in the north aisle. It is usually open Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 15:00, and it closes on some days. The tower cannot be climbed at present.
The Westerkerk โ2. The Homomonument on the Westermarkt
A quiet memorial in front of the church. Stop for a moment and treat it as a place of remembrance.
3. A walk along the Prinsengracht
The canal between the museum and the Tulip Museum opposite has trees, bridges and houseboats. A walk here does not include entry to any museum.
4. The Bloemgracht
Look at the group of houses called De Drie Hendricken at Bloemgracht 87 to 91 from the outside. This idea covers the outside only.

Markets and shopping streets
Ideas 5 to 8.
5. Noordermarkt
A farmers' market on Saturdays and a flea market on Mondays. These are weekly markets, not daily ones, so plan your day around them.
6. Westerstraat
On Mondays the street holds a fabric market. It is a separate market place from the Noordermarkt.
7. Lindengracht
A general weekly market on Saturdays along the canal street.
8. The Nine Streets (De Negen Straatjes)
Shopping streets in the historic canal belt, between the main canals. They are not part of the Jordaan, so allow extra time to cross over.

Small museums and a stroll
Ideas 9 to 12.
9. The Houseboat Museum

10. The Amsterdam Tulip Museum
At Prinsengracht 116, opposite the house and the church. It covers the history of tulips and the culture around them, and it is not a flower garden. It is open from 10:00 to 18:00 and closed on 27 April and 25 December. Adults pay โฌ7, students up to 25 years โฌ4, and families of three or more (two adults and children up to 15) โฌ15. 11. The Pianola Museum
A collection of self-playing pianos at Westerstraat 106, with occasional concerts. Check the programme and the hours before you set out.
12. The Elandsgracht
A street with restaurants and galleries, good for a stroll through the neighbourhood. No single venue is recommended here, so choose by what you see.

The weekly markets at a glance
Regular weekly days. Check the hours on the day you plan to go.
| Market | Day | Kind |
|---|---|---|
| Noordermarkt | Saturday | Farmers' market |
| Noordermarkt | Monday | Flea market |
| Westerstraat | Monday | Fabric market |
| Lindengracht | Saturday | General market |
If you want to see a market, plan your visit for a Monday or a Saturday. On other days the streets are still worth a walk, but the stalls are not there. For a suggested order on the day, start at the Westerkerk and the Homomonument, walk along the Prinsengracht, then continue into the Jordaan towards the Noordermarkt. Leave the Nine Streets for a second part of the day, since they lie in the canal belt and not in the Jordaan.
